“UBC Human-Rights Mediation Ends After 90 Minutes”
October 24, 2016 Global News- The Canadian Press
In the article, “UBC Human-Rights Mediation Ends After 90 Minutes,” published by Global News, light is shined on the numerous cases involving sexually violated victims. Glynnis Kirchmeier, a victim in this case that had come forward, filed a complaint in March with the BC Human Rights Tribunal, which said UBC did not act on numerous complaints about a male PhD student over long periods of time, resulting in more students becoming victims of sexual violence. The student says she filed the complaint both as an individual and on behalf of anyone who has alleged sex discrimination to the university. The case is still going forward, however U.B.C. promises to create a stand-alone sexual assault policy in November 2015.
This article demonstrates human rights in Canada because, here, a woman is stepping forward and taking her complaint to the court, expressing her Enforcement rights, and claims that her Equality and Legal rights are being denied. Thus, Glynnis Kirchmeier and all the victims being violated of their privacy, are expressing their rights as Canadian citizens, a duty they are obligated to do.
