Laws in Canada
How Are Laws Made in Canada?
New ideas just waiting to become laws, are thrown every which way in the House of Commons and in the Legislature. The only thing that separates these ideas/bills from becoming law, is the process of lawmaking in Canada.
Steps of Lawmaking at the Federal Level-
-The Cabinet Minister or any member of the House of Commons or Senate may introduce a bill -The idea is explained to the Cabinet -The Cabinet approves the idea -Lawyers come in and draft the bill -Cabinet committee examines the bill (for errors, troubles in the future if it is passed, loopholes) -Cabinet and Caucus approves the bill -Bill introduced to the House of Commons or the Senate for the first reading -Second reading -The House debates and votes on the principles of the bill -Parliamentary committee examines the bill -The House amends the bill -Third reading, debates and votes go on regarding the bill -Bill passes the House of Commons -The Senate examines, debates, amends the bill -The bill passes the Senate -The Governor General gives formal assent, bill is now law Steps of Lawmaking at the Provincial Level- -The same steps occur as in the federal level -The Senate stage is skipped -The Lieutenant- Governor of the province or territory grants royal assent instead of the Governor General |
Who Submits Bills to be Created Into Laws?
Any member of the House of Commons, the Cabinet and Senate can submit a bill. There are also things like a private member's bill. A private member's bill is when a bill is introduced into the legislature by a M.L.A who is not a member of the Cabinet.

March 2nd, 2016 CIC News
The general synopsis made by the CIC NEWS in their article, “Changes to Canadian Citizenship Act Will Allow Immigrants to Apply Earlier and More Easily” is that the former bill passed In June, 2014, “The Strengthening Canadian Citizenship Act” (also known as bill C-24) was an act of un-ethnicity towards a person. The Liberal Party of Canada made a public pledge in its election manifesto to repeal the unfair elements of Bill C-24 that created the problems and made it more difficult for hard-working immigrants to become Canadian citizens. The changes made to the former bill included how the individual becomes eligible for citizenship and the rights given after possessing it.
